Nonetheless, the writing style that Cameron adopts in this book is perfect for the impactful story she is telling. It took me a while to get into the initial chapters of The Light In Hidden Places as it is told in a circular narrative that sometimes makes it harder to follow. Not only is Stefania’s story a story of bravery and courage but one of love and hardship too, making it incredibly hard hitting. When the Germans come and the Diamants are sent to the ghetto, it is up to her to be strong for everybody. As a teenager, she works for a Jewish family, the Diamants, and is even engaged to one of their sons, Izio. Following her life through all of its most important moments, it sees her struggling through adversity and trying to do the right thing when everybody else would probably give up. The Light In Hidden Places is based on the incredible true story of Stefania Podgorska, a teenager in Poland when it was under German occupation.
